Over the summer between the 2018-19 and 2019-20 school year, and my enrollment in Digital Design and Animation I and II, I have been working with past materials at my own pace to better my comprehension of the course. In doing this, I hope to better prepare myself for the future Digital Design and Animation courses and partake in a variety of software involving video, audio, and other design components. I have specifically been working on my audio and video editing skills by composing some new pieces in Adobe Premiere Clip and Adobe Premiere. While working with these software, I have been able to grow in my video and audio editing skills and techniques. Although the video below is an older assignment that I have completed, it is a great example of how I have progressed in such a span of time from the previous school year to the present. In the process of working with Adobe Premiere, I have learned many things including how to better conjoin multiple components into a single piece using more efficient and smoother transitions and cuts. I have also learned how to edit an audio segment over a video and align them so that they fit almost as if they were supposed to. I have began to enjoy working with video and audio editing, however, I still find it quite troublesome as I did when I first started using the video and audio editing software. I hope to continue working in this area of Game Art Design and Animation, and I cannot wait to see what kinda things I will produce.

From what I have learned so far in my newly beginning Game Art Design career, I think that I will have a fairly stabilizing comprehension as I rise up the levels of Digital Design and Animation throughout my last years of high school. I also am excited to see what I will able to do and make considering my other DSA pathway is Photography 1. In the future, I hope to work more with 3DS Max and potentially other 3D modeling software that maybe I will grow to and become more comfortable with. I also hope to be able to animate certain scenes that I have in mind, and also be able to add audio inputs to give it even more flare and unique and individual character. So far, I have not made anything too impressive, but I surely hope and intend to make something worth looking into. I also hope to look more in depth into the material and content we cover, so that I can gain an ideal comprehension and understanding of the software. It would also be cool to see my possibilities of going into careers, and what possible careers are available. In the near future, I hope to work more with 3D texture mapping with materials and creating unique sub-objects. I will work in my portfolio and Weebly website to further advertise and present myself through my hard made work products. Considering that this will be my last blog post of the 2018-2019 school year, I hope to return next year with higher expectations of myself and better work ethic.
From what I have learned so far in working with 3DS Max and other 3D modeling software, I have began to utilize a sense of creativity to incorporate it into my 3D models. As you see above in the 3DS software model, I stumbled across a video where a YouTuber was using his 3D modeling skills to create a very realistic model of a Pokéball. This got me thinking about all the possible creative models and figures I could make with my knowledge of 3D modeling in the future. If I were ever to actually go into the Game Design profession, I would hope to work for a Pokémon Company and definitely under Nintendo or something like that. I have made, in my opinion, good progress since I have first started working with 3D modeling software. Under the assumption that I continue Game Art Design throughout all of high school, I would like to work on such models from famous games like Pokéballs or Minecraft blocks. It would also be totally cool if I could create models similar to that of already existing ones, and then modify them in a way that makes them unique under my critique. I look forward to working with these types of models in the future, and even taking it a step forward with the animation aspects of working with 3DS Max. I also cannot wait to see what kind of models my creativity and imagination will lead me in the near and far future. However, one thing ism for sure, I am definitely looking forward to continuing on this Game Art Design journey.
Then vs. Now For what we have learned so far in working with 3DS Max, I can say that my skills have improved considerably. As you can see above in the two 3DS models I created, I have progressed from making simple primitives to creating my own figures and models outside of the instructed tutorials. In the first model with the snowman, only simple spheres and boxes where used to create it. In the second model, I created my own models using primitives, shapes, and then applying modifiers to change their simplicity. When we first started working with 3DS Max, it took me a little while to adjust to the tools and basic feel of working with the software. Now, I have a fair comprehension of the software, and a relatively good sense of knowledge about what I am doing. However, I can not say that I have grown to like or find joy in 3DS Max any more or less than when I first opened up the software in Game Art Design. I personally do not currently see myself in this type of profession, but that does not mean that my opinion will not change in the near or distant future. I do, however, look forward to learning more about the Game Art Design class, and seeing what kind of cool creations I can make with my more expansive knowledge of the profession.
Now I know that there are times when we all get a little flashback or memory from the good old days, but do you ever just full out yearn to be back in those simpler days? I know that nostalgia can happen in any given situation at any given time, as it has happened to me so many times. One particular event that I so longingly want to return to is my elementary school days. Back then, I thought that I had it the worst, and that things would get better as the years progressed; I was horribly wrong. Back then, I complained about the little work I had to complete, but seeing how much I have to amount to now I would easily return to it. I also remember spending so much time at my grandparents house where I made memories that will last me a lifetime. Another aspect of my earlier childhood is the television I used to watch. Looking at the kid shows these days, I realized that they aren't half as good as when I watched those types of programs. I used to, and still do, enjoy many of the shows on the Noggin channel, what is now just Nick Jr. Among these shows, The Backyardigans is probably with the most memorable for me. I remember coming home from school during third grade, and almost immediately turning to this show. It's funny how we so often yearn for the past, as if we could just magically travel back to the time we desired. Even though I can't go back to those days, I really do miss them.
Since the time we began working with 3D modeling in 3DS Max, I have began to grow comfortable with the software an its manageable tools. As shown above in the Pencil Model I created, I have a pretty good handle on 3D modeling so far, and I am now able to make simple models like this one. I have gotten used to the transition between 2D and 3D modeling, and I am increasing my knowledge of animation software and understanding. I really like the added extension of the Z axis into my understanding of coordinate planes, and I believe that it will help me with my modeling in the future. However, up until now I have struggled with remembering the small but basic tools. With what I have worked with so far, I am not really nervous about working with 3D modeling in the future, and actually hope and looking forward to doing do so. I really like how creating 3D models allows for the person working on them to bring their imagination and creations to life in a way. I also look forward to being able to bring some of my creations to life in the future, and maybe even potentially make something that could one day make it to the top. I currently enjoy working with 3D modeling, and I am interested to see what happens in the future.
1. Avatar: The Last AirbenderThe Nickelodeon show Avatar: The Last Airbender is arguably an anime, but this show will forever be number one on my list because I have ultimately grown up with this show. I have always loved the idea of being able to bend one or all of the elements as a younger child, and I still marvel at the genius of this amazingly well thought out series. Overall, I have re-watched this series at least 10 times. 2. My Hero AcademiaRanking as one of the best anime since it first aired, I started reading the Boku no Hero Academia manga in seventh grade, and I absolutely loved it. I also have really loved the idea of a world where individuals posses extraordinary abilities that allow them to become great heroes. 3. Bungou Stray Dogs Not being a popular anime, I stumbled upon this anime, and was very into it. The characters were all thought out; the powers were cool and gave the audience very unique yet wonderful fight scenes. I also really admire the plot of this anime, and how the story develops. 4. Hunter x Hunter5. Naruto Shippuden I just recently started watching this anime, and between the full out fight scenes and mass character development, this popular anime has an interesting plot and very likable characters. I also really like the attire of the characters, and how they do not stick to one outfit throughout the series. As one of my favorite Shonen Jump manga, the world of ninjutsu has always interested me, and this classic anime is very popular even to this day. I have even put a lot of my time into learning some of the hand motions for the chakra jutsu used in this series.
My Hero Academia Bungou Stray Dogs Hunter x Hunter Naruto Shippuden Incredibles 2Spider-Man: Into the Spider-VerseThe GrinchIncredibles 2, Into the Spider-Verse, and The Grinch, are all very popular films known to many through their releases during 2018. All three of these animated films scored fairly high scores on Rotten Tomatoes, ranging from a 50% to a 97% rating. I personally have only seen Incredibles 2 so far, but I hope to be able to watch the other two films; I hear that they are pretty good. Over the years of 3D animation shows and movies, the processes and realism of the films has drastically changed. From the first Toy Story film to The Good Dinosaur, not only has the character design changed, but also the background graphics. Since Toy Story, 3D animators have changed their methods of animation, character design, scenery, and even music. As an ever-changing society, we are always finding ways to progress into the future and to better our technologies. Now audiences young and old can get a sense of realism as they watch these films. When the audience sees a character walk through the forest, they feel that they are walking forwards with them. Taking this a step further, animators have worked hard to produce 4D animation which gives the audience a stronger perception of reality within the film. I am very interested to see the progression that will be made in the future and how animation companies will develop animation methods and films. I hope to be able to continue working in Digital Design and Animation while also moving forward in my career and hopefully working in animation more in depth.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse The Grinch Rotten Tomatoes After EffectsIn class, we have not spent much time using the software After Effects. However, I got fairly comfortable with it when we were making our Motion Graphics. This software allows you take still images and merge them together to make a video. For my Motion Graphic, I followed the assignment's rubric while also adding some additional images and affects to the video including music and even some anime characters. Overall, I enjoyed using After Effects, and I wish that we could've spent more time with this software and studied it more in depth. AnimateFor Animate, we have not had much experience with this software either, and I am just now getting comfortable with it. This software allows you to take an image and alter it using key frames to present the illusion of motion. In class we have been working on animating a monster with Animate, and there is a plethora of components and tools I have to learn about that come with it. I feel that if I get more experience and time with this software, that I'll grow to like it all the more. PremiereWe have just recently gotten familiar with the software Premiere, and I personally enjoyed our Digital Audio/Video overview assignment. In my opinion, I prefer working with Premiere over After Effects and Animate. This software allows you to synthesize still images into a video that can include audio. When we did the assignment, I got really comfortable using the tools and I like the software's layout. I look forward to using Premiere in the future, and learning about its components and tools more in depth. Compare and ContrastBased on personal experience and preference, I would like to use Premiere more often in the near future. If I had to use the three software, or even just After Effects and Animate, I would not complain. However, if I was given the choice of the three, I would definitely pick Premiere. In my opinion, I just really feel that this software is what best suits me. I enjoy using all three software, but working with Premiere does not seem as cumbersome as using the other. I hope to continue to use all three in the future to better expand my knowledge and experience in the digital design and animation industry.Common in many popular games, Idle Animations have been used in more games and animations than thought to be. An idle animation is an animation present when the visible character is not in motion. Many games posses this type of animation like Super Smash Bros Ultimate or Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon. Out of the idle animations from What makes a great idle animation? Devs share their favorites, the idle animation of Mario sleeping was my favorite with Aladdin as a close second. The animation itself is not all that appealing, however, I have grown up playing Mario games and it just made me giggle. It is very entertaining seeing how Mario and his Idle Animations have so drastically changed over the years. Now, with more realistic graphics, Mario's Idle Animations are made to have movements and external factors that make it seem even closer to reality. It is interesting how the animators created this Idle Animation, because the shadow under Mario moves along with him creating the illusion of motion. It also appears that there was a hint of perspective to make it seem like Mario was realistically falling towards the gamer. Assuming that I stay with the Game Art Design for the rest of my high school experience, I would like to play around with making little idle animations like the one above.
